I recently read two news articles on the Kernaghan siblings, in particular Lee (The Country superstar) and Fiona (the black sheep).
The first article was about Lee Kernaghan withdrawing from a festival at Pussycat Flats Rodeo on June 21. The reason being Lee is simply too big for the event, the area won’t cope with the number of fans wanting to see him.
The second news article also featured a Kernaghan, this time Fiona, Lee’s younger sister. Fiona is a very different to Lee; she admits that she sees her self as “the slightly weird one” in the family. The article is interesting as it depicts that even country music singers and musicians get caught up in the drug orientated stereotype that is ‘muso culture’. In that Fiona had indulging in the white power while in Nashville but had given up now she moved to a better lifestyle in Los Angles.
I thought this was interesting as I did not align country music with that type of music culture for some reason, I guess its because of the stereotypical perception that country is played in the country rather than the city. City nightlife and, rock/roll music culture must have had a significant influence. Fionas music is in the genres of country/rock/pop.
Since then Fiona has turned her life around, she suggests in the article that she like many of us were young, silly and wanted to try and do everything. She is this years Australian of the Year, the difference between these two Kernaghan’s is probably the fact that over her career Fiona has been a little more risqué releasing songs with more controversial lyrics; one line noted as an example in the article is “I cut lines on a toilet with my credit card/trying to go numb.”

That sucks that he can’t play at the smaller venues. I understand that the croud would be too big but festivals/concerts are always better with your fave stars!
It’s really weird how different the two siblings are. I know brothers and sisters are always different, but you sort of expect country singers to have an all embracing country family. Its really unusual to see her go more city rock.
I knew he was popular in the Country Music industry but not that popular… wow thats amazing they wouldn’t be able to fit all of his fans in… I thought his tours were similar to Casey Chambers as Jacki pointed out, playing in regional areas. My parenst actually saw him last year in Forster. But the place was quite large so I guess a fair few people could fit in there.
Whats I think is interesting, when you mention her controversial line about doing coke on a toilet seat, how not the subject matter of drungs, but the fact she is a “muso” and after her experimenting with drugs has used her music as a form of therapy and expression. Which is what most “muso’s” use music as. I agree with jac, you dont expect to see drugs, or much family differences within the country music scene! Unfortunetly it brings reality that even happy country bumkins cant escape the “opportunities” with in the industry at times.
Lee continues to play the small venues too. Over this week he is out touring again in regional Australia.
With regard to the Pine Creek Rodeo, south of Darwin in the remote north of Australia and that Lee cancelled the concert … It was the organisers decision to cancel the show due to problems catering for a larger than expected crowd.
The booking to perform a concert in Pine Creek has been in place for at lease six months and the cancellation came very much as a surprise for the Lee Kernaghan management team.
When speaking on ABC Radio Darwin today Lee spoke of his dissapointment over the cancellation of the music event but has encouraged Northern Territorians to get behind Pine Creek.
“Keep the town pumping and support The Orchestra Under The Stars Show and other festivities taking place in Pine Creek over the June 21 weekend”
Lee also said he was looking forward to coming back to the Territory as soon as possible.

PROMOTERS OF THE PINE CREEK FESTIVAL HAVE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH LEE KERNAGHAN’S MANAGEMENT THIS AFTERNOON TO RESCHEDULE LEE’S CONCERT IN PINE CREEK FOR OCTOBER OR POSSIBLY NOVEMBER THIS YEAR.
Thanks for shedding further light on the situation Steve;
I must admit I am amazed the quality of responses we have received from the world outside our little blogging group, its incredible! I mean I would’ve suspected a few comments from country die hard fans, but to get comments and responses from bands and the personal assistant of Lee Kernaghan; is just something else!
[...] at the very least this indicates our blog has been a success; for example one of my blog post on the Kernaghans was commented on by Steve JW Roberts who is Lee Kernaghans Personal [...]
