Country Music Is Mixing It Up May 21, 2008

Blake Shelton was quoted saying, “It’s good for everybody that it’s starting to mix up.” This was in regards to an article about country music starting to intertwine with pop music. In the past it was very hard for country artists to get any air time. However, now, country artists are starting to get more air time because they are teaming up with pop artists. The two genres are closer on the country chart then ever before. Some of the intertwined acts include: Blake Shelton doing the cover of Michael Buble’s 2005 hit Home (which I personally love by Blake Shelton), Garth Brooks teamed up with Huey Lewis to sing his song Workin’ for a Livin’, Kelly Clarkson and Reba McEntire did a joint song called Because of You (plus many others), and newcomers Rissi Palmar and David Nail have covered Jordin Sparks’ No Air. So country music is becoming more popular, but the question still lies around whether it is truly country music or if it is becoming a different genre in itself??

I like this idea and I think it’s very true. Many pop/rock artists are beginning to merge into the country genre e.g. Bon Jovi and Jessica Simpson (Which I will discuss further in my up coming post). Perhaps with so many artists beginning to add a bit of country into their songs, the genre will get a little more publicity. E.g. hearing someone that an artists works with and researching them further, such as when Bon Jovi worked with Sugarland. After I heard their combined song i went out and researched Sugarland. I didn’t know anything about them before that.
