Country on the MySpace May 17, 2008

Hey guys i’d just like to draw your attention to myspace, as i’m sure most of you are aware myspace facilitates personal and musical profiles free of charge to people and bands all over the world. Myspace is therefore a great place to search for local country acts that may not have had the exposure. Myspace browser can also listen to tracks, learn about the artist and view there list of upcomming shows.

When I searched I found quiet a few talented artists that I had never heard of; according to their myspaces many of these artists have had exposure at country music festivals and have had recent releases into the country music charts. These artists are quiet talented yet even the most talented country music singers are finding it difficult to break into mainstream music. It may take something spectacular for these artists to be recognised in the mainstream charts, hopefully not as hard a road as casey chambers a country superstar that made it big with her song ‘am I not pretty enough’ and her Cindy Lauper cover in 2003 of ‘true colours’.

Some of the artists I thought were worth mentioning are Shayne Parle and Rebecca Lee Nye you should check them out!

Rebecca Lee Nyeshayne Parle

I also found a few other artists that are just starting out such as Amy a girl whom claims to be in the genre of Country/Emo which I thought was an interesting combination. Have a Listen!

We previously looked at the Tamworth Country Music Festival that is very popular and most people are familiar with. Therefore, I thought I would find some smaller, local festivals that feature less mainstream country artists. The CMAA website has a festival page that has 63 music festivals listed that are going to take place over the next year. The majority of them are in NSW (32) and QLD (11), while others are in NT, NI, VIC, and ACT. The festivals are held at all different types of places – country clubs, cafes, bars, entertainment centers, conference centers, etc. Most of them are weekend festivals and target a different style of country music. There was one that I found very interesting because it lasted for almost two months. This festival, Ellaways Music Live Jams in QLD, gives opportunities to musicians of all levels to perform jamming sessions. To see more about all the different festivals check out the CMAA festival page!
